obit Mabe, Betty.jpgBetty Ruth Freeman Mabe, age 89, of Golf Course Rd., Spencer, died Friday, June 24, 2016.
She was born in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Joseph Freeman and Betty Lou Grady Freeman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Mabe; five sisters, Alpha Campbell, Janie Slate, Elsie Hodges, Pencie Stowe and Beadie Shelton; and three brothers, George, Hardin, and David Freeman.
She was retired from Pannill Knitting and was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener who loved the outdoors and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and David Floyd of Martinsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Bernard “Bernie” and Celia Mabe of Winston-Salem, N.C; four grandchildren, Stephanie Brooks, Jeremy Mabe, Jodi Hendrix and Bryan Rakes; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Cassie Martin of Martinsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with LaRay Smith officiating. Burial was in the Patrick Memorial Gardens.
