Unofficial results from the Patrick County Democratic Primary show that Joseph R. Biden Jr., former vice president, led the field among the other four contenders in the recent primary.

Biden secured an approximate 550 votes in Patrick County. He also topped other candidates in primaries held throughout Virginia.

Biden was followed by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, (D-Vermont) with 252 votes and U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, (D-Hawaii), with 20 votes.

Michael R. Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City, received 121 votes and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts), attracted 87 ballots.

Both Bloomberg and Warren suspended their campaigns after disappointing performances in several primaries, according to reports.

Patrick County Registrar Susan Taylor reported that 1,086 people went to the polls, which represents 8.9 percent of the eligible voters in the county. The Blue Ridge District had the highest number of voters to visit the polls, with 238 casting a ballot.

To register to vote, visit https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/general/#vote_deadlines.asp or do so in person at a local DMV.

The deadline to register to vote in the 2020 presidential election is 22 days before the election in Virginia, according to vote.org. The Presidential election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
