Mr. Billy Gray Collins, age 83, of Claudville, Virginia, passed away early Monday morning, December 9, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Collins was born on March 12, 1941, one of eighteen children to the late Victor and Alpha Mae Collins. Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He worked for many years at Pike Electric as a mechanic, but his passion was cattle farming. Billy was a member of Hatchers Chapel Community Church and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Susan Bateman Collins; daughter and son-in-law, Marla Collins Griggs and husband Clay; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Gray Collins and wife Amanda, Ronnie Gray Collins and wife Margie; four grandchildren and spouse, Samantha and husband Shane, Morgan, Lilly, Lewis; two step-grandchildren, Dusty, Lindsey; one great-grandchild, Stella; two step great-grandchildren, Lyla, Thea; thirteen siblings; along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by four siblings.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Reverend Philip Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Hills Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Claudville, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, December 14, 2024, at Moody Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The body will lie-in-state on Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 1:30 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hatchers Chapel Community Church, 268 Hatchers Chapel Road, Claudville, Virginia 24076.
