Residents enjoyed a picnic at the Philpott Overlook.

With the hot temperatures, we have been staying inside and having activities which will cool us off. The residents had a fun time eating yogurt, fresh strawberries, freeze pops and watermelon, and they made their own “Ambrosia Salad” during “Cooking with Helen Cowley.” They enjoy being able to cook again and Helen helps us with this activity once a month. We are trying to stay cool during the hot days of summer.
The residents had a good time on their picnic at Philpott Dam. The dietary department fixed them subs, chips and drinks to take on their picnic. Just being outside and having fresh air under a picnic shelter is always enjoyable for anyone. They liked looking over the overlook area and seeing the lake and the scenery.
We also took a trip to Mount Airy, N.C., for milkshakes and slushes. Some of the residents also got food to bring back for their supper.
We will be going to Mabry Mill and riding around the county this week. Our residents love going to Mabry Mill; some of the residents get breakfast food and some choose to have lunch from the menu. The food is always great and it’s a beautiful place to visit.
We have been working on our calendar for July. We will be going to restaurants and for ice cream and also going shopping and for a couple of rides around the county.
We also have our in-house vacation planned for the week of July 18-22. This will be a fun-filled week for our residents.
The Blue Ridge Therapy Connection and The Landmark Center will be having a “Family Fun Night” on July 23 for the community. We will be having a “Kiddy Slip n’ Slide, the area’s largest “water slide”, a bouncy house and a movie on the lawn. The movie we will be featuring is “Norm of the North.” We are inviting the community to come and have a fun-filled family night with us. The event is free and will be from 6 to 10 p.m.. If you have any questions, please call (276) 694-3050. We look forward to seeing you there!
If you are interested in volunteering your talent or your time, please call Dee Dee Via at (276) 694-7161, extension 1804. We would love you to join our family at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection.
