

The Patrick County School Board celebrated Patrick County High School (PCHS) students who placed in the Career & Technical (CTE) Skills USA competition.
PCHS Principal Hope Perry said she believes CTE programs are one of the top things at the campus.
“Our kids are great, our staff is great, but our CTE program” is “what our kids are able to go into in the future straight out of high school, and they’re prepared and they’re ready to work. I’m so very proud,” she said.
Teacher Melanie Culler said a team of three cosmetology students competed in the total fantasy look competition with the theme of under the sea
With one student acting as the makeup artist and another as the hairdresser, Culler said they transformed the third student into a jellyfish.
“They won first in district competition and so they went onto place fifth,” she said.
Another student placed second out of 37 contestants in the fantasy mannequin competition with the same theme.
Philip Steagall, teacher, said a team of four competed in the Team Works category of the building competition.
“They get a set of plans, and they give them 20 minutes to make up a 3-5 minute presentation on how they’re going to complete the actual project,” he said.
In other matters, the board:
*Heard the superintendent’s report.
*Approved the consent agenda.
*Approved the certificated personnel recommendation lists 1-5.
*Approved the support staff recommendation lists 1-3.
*Approved the Elementary K-12 math textbooks.
*Approved the Title I, Part C Migrant Consortium Certification.
Chairman Amy Walker, of the Mayo River District, and Rob Martin, of the Dan River District, did not attend the meeting.
