The Stuart Book Club recently presented a collection of bi-lingual books to the Patrick County Branch of the Blue Ridge Regional Library. The books have been given in memory of Ann Rakes Belcher, a club member for several years and a Spanish Language teacher at Patrick County High School before retiring after 30 years in the classroom. Those attending the presentation were Ann’s husband, Larry; their daughter and son-in-law Monica and Jorge Gonzalez; and one grandchild, Suzanne; and members of the Stuart Book Club.

The Spanish-English books can be found in the children’s section of the library. The selections provide the opportunity for parents and children to share and enjoy familiar early-childhood literature along with well-told and beautifully illustrated tales of festivals, foods and friendships. When possible, the books have a custom-designed bookplate celebrating Ann’s devotion to children, her love of the Spanish culture, and her dedication to bring them together through education.

The Stuart Book Club is pleased to provide this collection. Established in 1925, the club is recognized as Patrick County’s oldest organization and works within the community to promote literacy and learning.
