The Blue Ridge Nursing Home recently received a gift of 125 junior Frostys from Wendy’s for residents.

Brenda Law, of non-profit organization T&B Volunteers, said the group has been working with nursing homes in the area for several years.

Providing the dairy dessert from Wendy’s “was just something we came up with that we thought they would enjoy for the Fourth of July,” Law said.

The group also delivered 60 of the icy delights to Heritage Hall Healthcare and Rehabilitation Centers in Laurel Fork.

When the organization first started planning the project two months ago, Law said volunteers asked Wendy’s if the restaurant would be willing to give a price discount since the group planned to purchase a large number.

Instead, “Wendy’s said they would donate every Frosty,” Law said.

She added the organization decided to go with the small size because many of the residents are diabetic, “and they don’t need all that sugar.”

Before the pandemic, T&B Volunteers visited Heritage Hall once a month to do activities with the residents. They also held indoor yard sales at both facilities for the residents to get clothes and other items for free.

Law said the group also sends snack foods, toiletries, and activity items to Blue Ridge, and is planning to send customized activity books to each resident soon.
