The Patrick County Varsity Football team took on the North Stokes Vikings on Thursday night at John D. Hooker Field and came away with a big win. The Cougars were led offensively by Noah Cain, who had a team-high 275 yards rushing on 16 carries for six touchdowns and a two-point conversion. QB Jayden Corns added 93 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown and a two-point conversion. Josiah Shelor carried the ball three times for 41 yards, Anthony Gonzalez added 28 yards on three carries and Mason Spencer had one carry for 24 yards.
Corns led the Cougars passing attack going 3 for 5 for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
Leading receivers for the Cougars were Brayden Hylton with two catches for 116 yards and Ethan Errichetti with one catch for 36 yards.
Defensively the Cougars were led by Wheeler Helms with 11 tackles and one sack, Noah Becker added six tackles, Josiah Shelor had five tackles, Jackson Handy added six tackles and a pass breakup, Jacob Spencer added three tackles and a pass breakup, Andrew Miller recorded three tackles and a sack, Mason Spencer added three tackles and two sacks, Copez Nowlin added three tackles, and Brayden Hylton added two tackles and an interception with a 30-yard return, his second on the season. Also recording tackles for the Cougars were Jayden Corns, Ivan Joaquin Ortega, Anthony Gonzalez, Aedan Frazier, Brent Errichetti, Charlie Tabor, Adrian Dehne, Perry Hicks, and Ernesto Ponce.
Ivan Joaquin Ortega carried the kicking duties for the Cougars and went six for 7 on PATs for the evening.
The Cougars will travel to Chatham next Friday night to take on the Cavaliers.
