After announcing that he would seek the Mayo River District seat on the Patrick County Board of Supervisors, Vance Agee said he has heard a number of rumors that he lives outside of the county and in another state.
However, Agee, 64, said that while he owns property in Roxboro, N.C., and his wife maintains a residence there, he lives in the Mayo River District in Patrick County a minimum of 25-days each month – just as he has done for the last five years.
Before that, Agee said he lived with his mother, in the Blue Ridge District of Patrick County.
Agee hopes to challenge incumbent Lock Boyce for the Mayo River District seat on the Patrick County Board of Supervisors.
He said he also has a Virginia issued Driver’s License and is a registered voter in his district.
The rumors, he said, are intended “to just muddy the waters. I’m a product of this county. I graduated from Patrick County High School in 1973,” Agee said, adding that he is “trying to dispel any rumors that are out there,” including that he has withdrawn from the race, which also is false.
According to Virginia statute, county officers must have lived 30 days before their election or appointment in the county where they are elected or appointed.
Mike Gravely has said he also plans to seek the post.
A primary election will be held in June to determine whether “someone is more popular than me,” Agee said. If so, “I’ll support them 100 percent, and I hope they will do the same for me. May the best person win, for the county and the district.”
