I don’t know about you, but every time I turn on the TV, all I see are monsters. It made me think of the quote “A world in which there are monsters, and ghosts, and things that want to steal your heart is a world in which there are angels and dreams, and a world in which there is HOPE.”~ Neil Gaiman.
While during this time, it feels that our world is filled with monsters, ghosts and things that want to steal your heart. But look beyond the headlines and you will find the angels and dreams. And you will see the HOPE that we have for ourselves, our community, our country and our world. There is HOPE working in Patrick County. It started on day one of this pandemic with neighbors helping neighbors.
We need to continue to have HOPE and look out for one another. The chamber was busy in June working on several projects for the county. No project ever moves at the speed one would wish and with the current issues, things seem to be moving even slower. But they are moving. Remember, the tortoise won.
Work continues on the Historic District designation for downtown Stuart. That designation would open up tax credits for rehabilitation of the buildings. The chamber is looking to host a workshop on how those tax credits work for the building owners either in late fall, early 2021.
While our spring tourism season was halted, things are picking up with the State Park, Primland, Philpott and Mabry Mill all opening. The Healthy Patrick County is continuing their work on how to address several healthcare issues for our county.
As we move into July and August, more things are opening. While this is exciting, precautions of mask wearing, hand washing and social distancing need to be continued to help slow the spread of COVID-19. We encourage you to support our local businesses, but do so in a responsible way.
