An Ararat man was arrested Wednesday on charges handed down by a special grand jury, according to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith.

Brian Maurice Green was arrested for possession of Schedule I or II controlled substance, distribution of Schedule I or II controlled substance, and maintain common nuisance, allegedly a drug house, Smith said.

The charges stemmed from a nine-month investigation after the body of Jessica Rachel Stanley, 30, was found at Green’s home. She died from a drug overdose — a lethal dose of Fentanyl and a lethal dose of methamphetamines, according to her toxicology results from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Forensic Science Laboratory, Smith said.

He added the investigation is ongoing.

“We have lost too many young people to drug overdoses. If you provide the drug that kills someone, you will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Smith stated.

Investigator Steve Austin is handling the investigation, according to Smith.
