Charles Nelson Stanley 68, of West End, N.C., and formerly of Mount Airy, N.C., died at his home Sunday, February 21, 2016.
He was born in Patrick County and was a son of the late Charles Wayne and Velvia Marshall Stanley. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Stanley, and an infant brother.
In the ‘70s and ‘80s, he enjoyed showing and riding horses, winning many awards. He retired from Coram Construction and was an avid motorcyclist. He attended Middle Cross Baptist Church in West End.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Southard Puckett; one daughter, Sherry Lynn Stanley; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; stepchildren, Lynne Johnson and Frankie Puckett; five stepgrandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Sandra Stanley, Allen Stanley, Ray Vernon and Tammy Sizemore; and a special niece.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Doe Run Baptist Church cemetery.
