In February, Solutions That Empower People, Inc. (STEP) hosted Kidbox with about 75 children in Patrick County receiving brand new, name brand outfits in both the Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

Kidbox is a children’s clothing subscription service that has a philanthropic mission to “spread kindness,” said Kris Landrum, STEP’s marketing and communications director.

Through the program, brand new, name brand clothing is distributed to children who may not have the opportunity to get such clothes otherwise, she said, adding typical situations are hurricane victims, homeless shelters, etc.

“This year they decided to distribute clothes in every state,” Landrum said.

STEP was selected to be Virginia’s agency based on their searches for places that are already “doing good” in the community, Landrum said, adding their hope is that by showing kindness to children, they will instill a mission of kindness in those children and their families, who will in turn, pay it forward, Landrum said.
