Circuit court cases tried during January

According to Clerk of Court Susan Gasperini, the following cases were tried during January in Patrick County Circuit Court:
•William Roy Napier, Stuart, convicted of grand larceny, sentenced to 10 years in prison with all time suspended except one year and six months; convicted of grand larceny, sentenced to 10 years in prison; convicted of eluding a law enforcement officer, sentenced to five years in prison, suspended, operator’s license revoked for six months; convicted of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, sentenced to five years, suspended; convicted of possession of a controlled substance, sentenced to five years, suspended; convicted of possession of a gun illegally, sentenced to five years, suspended; convicted of possession of a controlled substance, sentenced to five years, suspended, operator’s license revoked for six months, assessed costs and restitution in each case.
•Kerry R. Powell, Spencer, convicted of child neglect, sentenced to 60 days in jail, suspended, assessed costs; convicted of possession of a controlled substance, sentenced to five years in prison, suspended, operator’s license revoked for six months, assessed costs.
•Jennifer L. Spencer, Stuart, convicted of embezzlement, sentenced to three years in prison, suspended, assessed costs and restitution.
•Chris Redd, Stuart, charged with depredation by dog, case dismissed.
•Linford Vipperman, Stuart, charged with depredation by dog, case dismissed.
•Lance Alan Waldrop, Hattiesburg, Miss., charged with resisting a police officer, found not guilty.
•Johnny Wesley Snider, Meadows of Dan, found guilty of misdemeanor eluding police, sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended, fined $25 and costs; convicted of passing on the crest of a hill, fined $500 and costs.
•Christopher Wayne Bowman, Stuart, convicted of violation of good behavior order, court revoked 150 days of previously suspended sentence.
•Wesley Wellons Burgess, Patrick Springs, convicted of two counts of using profane language, sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, on each count, fined $500 with $400 suspended, assessed costs; charged with two additional counts of using profane language, found not guilty.
•Justin Lee Hollandsworth, Henry, convicted of probation violation, court revoked two years of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
•James T. Hooker, Claudville, convicted of reckless handling of a firearm, sentenced to 12 months in jail with all time suspended except 15 days, assessed $200 fine, costs and restitution, weapon forfeited to commonwealth.
•Sara Anne Hutchens, Stuart, convicted of domestic assault and battery, sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, assessed costs.
•Randall Kinrod Hylton, Stuart, convicted of violating a protective order, sentenced to 90 days in jail, fined $100 and costs; charged with failure to appear in court, case dismissed; charged with failure to appear in court, sentenced to 10 days in jail and assessed costs.
•Richard A. Lane, Critz, convicted of failure to appear in court, sentenced to 10 days and assessed costs.
•Jeffery L. Martin, Stuart, convicted of misdemeanor unauthorized use of motor vehicle, sentenced to 12 months in jail with all time suspended except 10 days, assessed costs.
•Jacob Edward Montgomery, Bassett, convicted of probation violation, court revoked nine months of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
