According to Clerk of Court Susan Gasperini, the following cases were tried in Patrick County Circuit Court during August:
•Christopher Hampton Maxwell, St. Augustine, Fla., convicted of distribution of a controlled substance, sentenced to three years in prison, suspended, operator’s license revoked for six months; convicted of sale of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, sentenced to three years with all time suspended except 15 months, operator’s license revoked for six months; convicted of two counts of possession of a controlled substance, sentenced to one year, suspended, operator’s license revoked for six months, on each count; convicted of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, sentenced to one year, suspended, operator’s license revoked for six months, assessed costs in all cases.
• Tommy Lee Travis Engle, Critz, charged with strangling another, found guilty of assault and battery, sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, assessed costs; charged with malicious wounding, found guilty of assault and battery, sentenced to 12 months, suspended, assessed costs.
• Larry Wayne Mabe, Woolwine, charged with malicious wounding, found guilty of misdemeanor assault and battery, sentenced to 12 months in jail with all time suspended except 30 days, fined $750 and assessed restitution and costs.
• Eric Lewis Griffith, Ararat, charged with grand larceny of a motor vehicle, found not guilty; charged with grand larceny, case nolle prossed on motion of commonwealth’s attorney; charged with illegal possession of a firearm, found not guilty.
• Candece N. Alverson, Bassett, convicted of shoplifting, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except two months, ordered not to go on premises of Walmart.
• Emma Louise Vance, Martinsville, convicted of shoplifting, third offense, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except three months, assessed costs and restitution, ordered not to go on premises of Walmart.
• James Dougas Hoback, Critz, convicted of shoplifting, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except one month, assessed costs; convicted of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, sentenced to five years, suspended, ordered to successfully complete diversion center program, assessed costs.
• Greta Bowman McAdams, Stuart, convicted of shoplifting, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except one year, assessed costs; convicted of probation violation, court revoked one year of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• Sammy E. Bowman, Claudville, convicted of probation violation, court revoked three days of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• Ernest M. Casey, Fieldale, convicted of shoplifting, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except five months, assessed costs and restitution.
• Ronald Gene Edwards Jr., Fieldale, convicted of driving with a suspended license, sentenced to 60 days in jail with 50 days suspended, fined $200 and costs, operator’s license revoked for 60 days.
• Michael Draper Gravely, Ararat, convicted of parole violation, court revoked six months of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• Robbie Glenn Grona, Patrick Springs, convicted of probation violation, ordered to successfully complete the diversion center program, assessed costs.
• Coleman Lee Hale, Patrick Springs, convicted of driving with a suspended license, third offense, sentenced to 10 days in jail, fined $250 and costs, operator’s license revoked for 10 days.
• Clinton Lewis Haley, Stuart, convicted of failure to comply with terms of good behavior, court revoked nine months of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• Casey Marie Henderson, Bassett, charged with petit larceny, third offense, case dismissed; convicted of probation violation, court revoked nine months of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• J. Chris Howard, Patrick Springs, convicted of failure to appear in court, fined $200 and costs.
• Jennifer Anne Lunsford, Galax, convicted of failure to appear in court, sentenced to 30 days in jail, assessed costs.
• Tammy Lee Lyall, Bassett, convicted of probation violation, ordered to successfully complete behavioral modification program.
• Priscilla Ann Martin, Stuart, charged with probation violation, case dismissed.
• Ray Delbert McAllister, Staunton, convicted of probation violation, court revoked 30 days of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• Teresa Smart Milligan, Axton, charged with utility service fraud, case dismissed.
• Nicholas Seth Payne, Cana, charged with probation violation, case dismissed.
• Buddy Rodgers, Stuart, convicted of failure to appear in court, fined $200 and costs.
• April Dawn Rucker, Stuart, convicted of driving with a suspended license, sentenced to 10 days in jail, court revoked 30 days of previously suspended sentence, fined $100 and costs.
• Joseph Singleton, Hurley, convicted of probation violation, court revoked nine months of previously suspended sentence, ordered to successfully complete diversion center program.
• Chasity Michelle Woods, Danbury, N.C., charged with driving with a suspended license, driving with defective equipment and in an uninspected vehicle, cases nolle prossed on motion of commonwealth’s attorney.
