Class of 2022 prepares to ‘step’ at commencement Friday

“Everybody wanna be a steppa, but don’t wanna step,” according to the Class of 2022’s motto, but the more than 150 graduates will ‘step’ and receive their diplomas on Saturday, May 20.

The ceremony that will be held on the football field begins at 7 p.m. on the Patrick County High School football field. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. 

Seniors should arrive at the high school by 5 p.m., but not before 4:45 p.m. Seniors driving themselves will have a special parking pass and will be parked at the grassy island near the library. Those riding with their families will park on a first come, first serve basis in the lower lot. 

Each graduate’s family will receive two gold parent/guardian tickets for reserved seating on the field. Tickets are not required for bleacher seating. In case the ceremony is moved indoors, graduates also will receive four green tickets, in addition to their two gold tickets, for indoor seating. 

If there is inclement weather, graduation will be moved to Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m. A decision will be made by 12 p.m. on May 19 regarding moving to the rain day schedule. 

Class Colors are glitter gold, silver white and sage green.

The Class Flower is the carnation.

The Class Song is “Empire State of Mind,” by Jay-Z. 

Senior Class Officers include Josie Raye Vernon, president; Brianna Michelle Puckett, Vice President; Connor Andrew Campbell, Secretary.
