obit Barbour, ColonelColonel Hayes Barbour, age 72, of Stuart, died Thursday, March 10, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Henry County on December 24, 1943, and was a son of the late Ed and Mattie Hairston Barbour. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy Via and Coreen Street; and a brother, Velton Barbour.
He was a member of Fresh Harvest Christian Church where he served as a deacon and a trustee and sang in the choir. He had retired from Norfolk and Western Railroad, and had worked for Swing Transport.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Gloria Conner Barbour of the home; one son, Jarryl Barbour of Stuart; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Michael Turner of Stuart and Stacey and David McKinney of Martinsville; four grandchildren, Monica Wilson and husband Branden, Mario Norman, Megan McKinney and Dylan McKinney; two great-grandchildren, Jaiden Wilson and Alycia Wilson; one brother, Eddie “June” Barbour of Stuart; and one sister, Iowa “Era” Joyce of Martinsville.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor J. LeRoy Wimbush officiating. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens.
