Sunday-Wednesday, Aug.1-Aug. 4

The Middle Cross Missionary Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for children ages 5 to 15.

 

Thursday, Aug. 5

The Russell Creek Community Crime Watch Meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Stuart. The guest speaker will be Sheriff Dan Smith speaking on the Sheriff’s Office Operations and changes in the past year.

 

Friday, Aug. 6

The Vesta Community Center will hold a Quarter Auction with doors opening at 5 p.m. and games starting at 6 p.m. $5 includes 2 paddles and 1 door prize ticket. Bring travel size toiletries to donate and get an extra door prize ticket. The event will benefit the Roanoke Ronald McDonald House Charities. Contact Katlyn Boyd at 952-8152 or Connie N. The First Friday Summer Jam will take place at Stuart Farmers’ Market and will feature music by Slick Jr. and The Reactors. Gates open at 6 p.m., and admission is $5 per person with children 12 and under entering for free. Concessions are available for sale. Masks required for the unvaccinated.

 

The Woolwine United Methodist mobile food pantry will be at FairyStone Fire Department from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Saturday, Aug. 7

Primland, Auberge Resorts Collection will hold a Blue Ridge Wilderness & Survival Hike Experience from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Meadows of Dan Women’s Club will hold a bingo night at the Meadows of Dan Community Center. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and games will start at 6 p.m. Food is available for purchase. For more information, call 276-952-2674.

 

The Rise & Shine Youth Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Stuart Farmers’ Market. Rise & Shine Market is Patrick County’s youth-led markers and growers’ market for youth entrepreneurs ages 8 to 18.

 

Sunday, Aug. 8

The Boyd family Reunion will be held at the Vesta Community Building form 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. People are encouraged to bring covered dishes, instruments if they play music, genealogical research, and family photo albums.

 

Monday, Aug. 9

The Patrick County Board of Supervisors will meet at 6 p.m. in the 3rd floor board room of the Patrick County Administration Building.

 

Tuesday, Aug. 10

The Patrick County Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in the 2nd floor conference room of the Patrick County Veteran’s Memorial Building.

 

Thursday, Aug. 12

The Buffalo Ridge Community Crime Watch meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Sycamore Baptist Church. The guest speaker will be Sheriff Dan Smith.

 

Sunday, Aug. 15

Ice Cream Social & cruise-in, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Smith River Rescue Squad Building in Woolwine, sponsored by the Virginia Covered Bridge Festival Committee.

 

Wednesday, Aug. 18

Stuart Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. at the Town of Stuart office.

 

Friday, Aug. 20

The Woolwine United Methodist mobile food pantry will be at Howell’s furniture Store from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Wednesday, Aug. 28

W.E.A.R. Book Club Meeting will hold a meeting at the Spencer Penn Centre from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to discuss “The Shell Collector” by Nancy Naigle. A Social Meet and Greet with Naigle will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A Facebook LIVE Book Club Meeting will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

Friday-Saturday, Sept. 3-Sept. 4

Dominion Valley Park will hold a Labor Day Weekend event, with music performances starting at 5:30 p.m. each day. The cost of admission is $25 for each day, or $40 for a two-day pass. Fairy Stone State Park will hold a Monday Market every Monday through Sept. 6 at Picnic Shelters 3 & 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Vendors will accept cash only.
