Thursday, Aug. 12

The Buffalo Ridge Community Crime Watch meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Sycamore Baptist Church. Sheriff Dan Smith will discuss operations and changes in the past year.

The Patrick County School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Patrick County High School Auditorium.

Thursday-Saturday, Aug. 12-Aug. 14

The Life Tabernacle Church will hold a Revival on Thursday and Friday, and a Homecoming on Saturday. Gary Stoots will be the guest speaker. Preaching will start at 11 a.m., dinner will be at 12 p.m., and singing starts at 1 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 14

The Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church will hold an indoor vendor sale, yard sale, and free car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hotdogs and baked goods will be for sale. This event is a fundraiser for the teen ministry.

 

Tuesday, Aug. 17

A Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) public information meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the P&HCC Patrick County site.

The Patrick County Alzheimer’s Group LLC will be at the Vesta Community Center to restart the Alzheimer’s support in that area. If you are a caregiver or someone struggling with Alzheimer’s or dementia, come to the meeting. Lunch will be served.

 

Wednesday, Aug. 18

The Town of Stuart Council will meet at 7 p.m. at the Town of Stuart office.

 

Thursday, Aug. 19

The Patrick County Tourism Advisory Council (TAC) will meet in Fayerdale Hall at Fairy Stone State Park at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend. A Zoom link will be posted on the Friends of Patrick County Facebook group for those who cannot attend in person.

The Fairystone/Pole Bridge Community Crime Watch meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Fairystone Fire Department. Sheriff Dan Smith will discuss operations and changes in the past year.

 

Friday, Aug. 20

The Woolwine United Methodist Mobile Food Pantry will be at Howell’s Furniture from 3 to 5 p.m.

 

Saturday, Aug. 21

Treasure Hunt for 3rd through 8th grade students at the Reynolds Homestead. When planting flowers, we found a map, a note, and the first clue. Reynolds Homestead is now looking for a team of investigators to bring home the treasure buried by R.J. Reynolds. The day will include the group practicing social and collaboration skills, while also learning facts about Reynolds Homestead. Each clue will spark conversation. All core subjects will be included, but the event is rooted in history. This event costs $15 per student and includes snacks and prizes. Register and pay online at bit.ly/RHtreasurehunt. Payment for all camps should be made payable to Treasurer of VT and mailed to 463 Homestead Lane, Critz, VA 24082.

Thursday, Aug. 26

The Ararat Community Crime Watch meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Ararat Ruritan Building. Sheriff Dan Smith discuss operations and changes in the past year.

 

Wednesday, Aug. 28

W.E.A.R. Book Club Meeting will hold a meeting at the Spencer Penn Centre from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to discuss “The Shell Collector” by Nancy Naigle. A meet and greet with Naigle will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.  A Facebook LIVE Book Club Meeting will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

 

Friday-Saturday, Sept. 3-Sept. 4

Dominion Valley Park will hold a Labor Day Weekend event, with music performances starting at 5:30 p.m. each day. The cost of admission is $25 for each day, or $40 for a two-day pass. Those eight and under are admitted free. Camping is available for $20 per night and sites have electricity and water. For more information, visit dominionvalleyllc.com.

The Patrick County Alzheimer’s will be serving as a food vendor at the Methodist yard sale on Route 58 over the Labor Day holiday. We also continue to seek out those who are suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s.  Our office is in the basement of Hill’s Tax Service.  We are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Our phone number is 276-698-2901.

The Coffee Break Café hosts live music on Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Bring an instrument, or just come and listen.

Fairy Stone State Park will hold a Monday Market from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays through Sept. 6 at Picnic Shelters 3 & 4. Vendors accept cash only.
