Meetings

Monday, Jan. 9

The Patrick County Board of Supervisors will meet at 6 p.m. in the third-floor court room of the Patrick County Administration Building.

 

Thursday, Jan. 12

The Patrick County School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Patrick County School Board Office.

 

Wednesday, Jan. 18

The Stuart Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. in the town office.

Saturday, Dec. 31

Pleasant View Baptist Church in Patrick Springs will hold a Candlelight New Year’s Eve Service and Communion at 6 p.m.

 

Sunday, January 1

Whiskey Run Hike, 10 a.m., Stuart’s Knob Trailhead, Fairy Stone State Park, 967 Fairystone Lake Drive, Stuart. Includes the history of moonshining and how residents of Fayerdale used Stuart’s Knob to provide for their families.

 

Mayo River Trails Red Bud Trail Hike, 1 p.m. at The Trails at Mayo River, 500 Pratt Road, Spencer. Hike 1.3 miles and discover the history of Native Americans who inhabited the area and the importance of William Byrd’s expedition. Friday, Jan. 6

The Woolwine Food Truck will be at the Woolwine Rescue Squad from 3-5 p.m.

 

Saturday, Jan. 7

A Turkey Shoot, sponsored by the Patrick County Patriots, will be held at the Smith River Wildlife Building on Charity Highway in Woolwine, starting at 2 p.m. Practice rounds begin at 1:30. Food will be available for purchase by the Patrick County Patriots.

 

Monday, Jan. 9

Beginning Tai-Chi classes (especially for seniors) will be offered at the Hooker Building at Rotary Field in Stuart on Mondays and Thursdays, beginning January 9, through March 30. Monday hours are 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. and Thursday hours are 3 – 4 p.m. Additional information about the free program is available at any session.

 

Friday, Jan. 20

The Woolwine Food Truck will be at the Fairystone Rescue Squad from 3-5 p.m.

The Coffee Break Café hosts live music on Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. Bring an instrument, or just come and listen. 

 

The Patrick County Library hosts Story Time with Ms. Sam at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, with books, songs, finger plays, and more. For more information, call (276) 694-3352.

 

The Patrick County Library will hold the LEGO Club with Ms. Sam on Mondays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. This program is mainly intended for school age children. For more information, call the library at (276) 694-3352.

 

The Ararat Ruritan Club hosts virtual raffles on its Facebook page on the first of each month. Various items are raffled off at $10 or $20 per limited chance. There are 30-35 chances on each raffle. The Patrick County Quilters’ Sit-N-Sew is held on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Quilted Colors. For more information, call 276-694-3020 or email patrickcountyquilters@gmail.com.

 

The Ararat Ruritan Club hosts Bingo Night on the second Saturday of each month. Doors open at 5 p.m., with concessions. Play begins at 6 p.m. The club is located at 4711 Ararat Highway, Ararat, VA.  

 

The Briarpatch Amateur Radio Club serves amateur radio operators in southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina. All amateur radio operators and interested public can access the on-air weekly net held each Tuesday night at 8 p.m. with a frequency of 147.090+ and 103.5 tone. Circle K on 58, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Hardin Reynolds Memorial School, 11:25 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Patrick Henry Volunteer Fire Station, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Salem United Methodist Church, 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
