Meetings

 

Monday, July 14

The Patrick County Board of Supervisors will meet at 6 p.m. in the third-floor courtroom of the Patrick County Administration Building.

 

Tuesday, July 15

The Patrick County School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Patrick County School Board Office.

 

Wednesday, July 16

The Stuart Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Stuart Town Office.

 

 

Events

 

Friday, July 4

4th of July Bluegrass and Old Time Music Competition from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Vesta Community Center. Banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bands, vocals, and flat footling competitions with three levels each: children, teens, and adult, and cash prizes for the top three competitors. The opening ceremony will be held by Patrick County VFW Post 8467, and the quilts of valor will be presented at 10 a.m. Hotdogs, BBQ, lemonade, soft drinks, and desserts will be for sale. The quilt show will be by Mountain Top Quilters. The event also includes a tractor show and games for children. Bring your own lawn chairs.

 

Tuesday, July 8

The Drug-Free Patrick County Coalition will meet from 12-1 p.m. at the Stuart site of Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC).

 

Thursday, July 10

Patrick County Senior Citizens Group meets at 11 a.m., Hooker Building at Rotary Field, Stuart. Entertainment by Philip Adams. Beverages provided. Attendees are asked to bring salads and/or desserts to share.

 

Saturday, July 12

The Patrick Springs Ruritan Club will be having its annual fish fry dinner, 4-7 p.m., at Patrick Springs Park in Patrick Springs. Proceeds will help the club to sponsor community service projects including scholarships for high school graduates, backpack program for students and other events. The meal will include fried fish, beans, corn, slaw, roll, drink and a dessert. Eat-in or takeout. Auction of cakes and pies to be held.

 

Sunday, July 13

The descendants of John Preston Williams will have their annual reunion at the Hughes Shelter in Trot Valley. All relatives and friends are encouraged to come and bring a covered dish starting at 11 a.m. Lunch will be at 1 p.m.

 

Wednesday, July 16

The Patrick County Food Bank will distribute at its Stuart site from 8:30-11 a.m. and again from 5-6:30 p.m.; Fellowship Church in Ararat from 8-10 a.m. and at the Meadows of Dan Community Building starting at 5:30 p.m.

 

Friday, July 18

The community food truck will be at the Fairystone VFD from 3-4 p.m.

 

The Rise & Shine Youth Market will be at the Farmers’ Market, 8 a.m. – noon, 320 Chestnut Road, Stuart. The market is a local youth-led makers and growers’ market for youth aged 8 to 18.

 

Saturday, July 19

The Mayberry Book Festival, sponsored by The Perry Family Scholarship, will be hosted at the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History, 301 North Main St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

The 8th annual Rock Castle Descendants Reunion will be held at 12 p.m. at Slate Mountain Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Meadows of Dan. The 50th annual Elgin Reunion will be at Fairystone Volunteer Fire Station with a potluck lunch at 12 p.m.

Monday Market at Fairy Stone State Park, rain or shine, 5-7 p.m. at Shelters #3 & #4. This is a cash only market, and parking is free. Runs through Labor Day.

 

The Coffee Break Café hosts live music on Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. Bring an instrument, or just come and listen.

 

Inside yard sale to benefit Patrick County Alzheimer’s Group LLC. Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Members meet on the first Monday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Alzheimer’s office. New members are welcome. For more information, call (276) 693-6018.

 

Ararat Alzheimer’s Group LLC group meets at the Fellowship Church in Ararat on the second Thursday each month at 12 p.m.

 

Vesta Alzheimer’s Group LLC meets at the Vesta Community Center on the third Tuesday each month at noon. Both groups welcome new members and invite caregivers to attend. Literature is also available.

 

Ararat Ruritan Club holds Rook games every Monday night from 6:30-8 p.m.

 

Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard meets the first Tuesday of every month at the American Legion Post 105, at 7 p.m. Interested veterans are welcome to attend.

 

Free Community Meal, on the 4th Wednesday, 5 p.m., Raven Rock Wesleyan Church, 1912 Raven Rock Road, Ararat. Take out or dine in. Call Scott or Nann Phillips at (276) 773-6004 or email pastor@ravenrockchurch.org.

 

The Carroll County Genealogy Club is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

 

Willis Gap Community Center: Members Meeting, the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.; Appalachian Acoustic Open Jam, every Friday. Doors open at 6 p.m. for food. Music and dancing are 6:30-9 p.m.; Golden Oldies Open Jam is on the last Tuesday of the month. Doors open at 6 p.m. for food, music and dancing from 6:30-9 p.m.

 

Community meal at Salem Church on Salem Road in Critz, held on the first Sunday of every month at 12:10 p.m.  Call (276) 222-1069 with questions.

 

Patrick County Senior Citizens group is sponsoring upcoming trips – a one-day trip on August 2 is planned to NarroWay Dinner Theatre, Fort Mill, South Carolina. A two day, one night trip to the Abingdon and Bristol areas of southwest Virginia departing Tuesday, November 18 and returning Wednesday, November 19. For additional details, call (276) 694-3917.
