Friday, Sept. 11

The Friday Night Jam at the Lambsburg Community Center is starting up again from 6 p.m.-6:30 p.m. until quitting time. All area musicians are invited to come and join in the village of Lambsburg, VA. Food and desserts will be sold.

 

Saturday, Sept. 12

Patrick Henry Community College will host an Introduction to Photography class led by Rick Dawson, a certified professional photographer. The class will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a break from noon to 1 p.m. The class costs $60 and pre-registration is required by calling 276-656-5461 or visiting ph.augusoft.net.

 

Sunday, Sept. 13

A free, outdoors bluegrass concert with Mountain Highway will be held starting at 5:30 p.m. at Ferrum Faith Assembly of God in Ferrum. Bring your own chair. A free-will offering will be received. Call 276-540-365-9904 for more information.

 

Tuesday, Sept. 15

The Patrick County Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in the Board Room on the 3rd floor of the Patrick County Veteran’s Memorial Building.

 

Saturday, Sept. 19

The Remedy band will hold an outdoor concert starting at 6:30 p.m. at Ferrum Faith Assembly of God in Ferrum. Multiples genres of music will be played including contemporary Christian, jazz, and blues. Bring your own chair. A free-will offering will be received. Saturday, Sept. 26

The Patrick County Demolition Derby will be held at the Rotary Field Amphitheater starting at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10 in cash at the gate. Children 12 and under get in for free.

 

The New Hope Church of the Brethren will hold a fundraiser from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for Ann Easter, whose home suffered major damage from an underground mudslide in May. The meal is drive-thru only and costs $8 per plate for BBQ pork, green beans, corn, slaw, roll, desert, and drink.

 

Saturday, Oct. 3

The Ararat Ruritan Club is selling 8-feet table “spots” for $10 for a “Vendor Blender” event to be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 12 tables will be reserved on a first-come-first-serve basis. Mountain Home Masonic Lodge is selling whole cooked Boston butts for $30 per butt. The pick-up date is Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Mountain Home Masonic Lodge #263, 111 Buena Vista Ave, Stuart, VA, 24171. The Mountain Valley Hospice Alzheimer’s Support Group meets on the first Tuesday of each month from 6-7 p.m. Meetings are held virtually. Mountain Valley Hospice hosts a virtual caregiver support group the first Thursday of each month at 1 and 6 p.m. The support group is for families dealing with serious illness, such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, congestive heart failure or COPD. The Jeb Stuart Rescue Squad is auctioning off a 2001 Ford F450 4×4 unit via silent auction. The 2001 unit has 142,336 miles. Maintenance logs are available upon request. Bids can be mailed to P.O. Box 340, Patrick Springs, Va., 24133 by Friday, Oct. 16 by 5 p.m.

Cancellations due to COVIC-19:

The Alexander Wood family reunion has been cancelled for Sunday, Sept. 13. There are no plans to reschedule the event.

 

Pancake Days in Meadows of Dan is postponed. As this is the only annual fundraiser for Meadows of Dan Ruritans, the Meadows of Dan Volunteer Fire Department, and the Vesta Rescue Squad, consider sending a donation to Meadows of Dan Ruritan Club, P.O. Box 804 Meadows of Dan, Va. 24120.
