Thursday, Sept. 17

The Tourism Advisory Council will hold a meeting starting at 6 p.m. via zoom.

 

Saturday, Sept. 19

The Remedy band will hold an outdoor concert starting at 6:30 p.m. at Ferrum Faith Assembly of God in Ferrum. Multiples genres of music will be played including contemporary Christian, jazz, and blues. Bring your own chair. A free will offering will be received. Brunswick Stew will be sold at the 84th Spencer Community Fair at the Spencer Ruritan Building via drive through. A quart of stew costs $8 and a gallon costs $30. Only pre-orders will be accepted at (276) 340-1615.

 

The Salem United Methodist Church will hold a Ribeye Steak Sandwich Drive-Thru from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A sandwich, chips, drink, and a piece of homemade pound cake will cost $10.

 

Wednesday, Sept. 23

The Southern Food & Beverage Museum will be holding live kids cooking classes with SoFAB Kids starting at 5 p.m. To join the meeting go to Facebook/SouthernFood&BeverageMuseum/ or by going to zoom.

 

Thursday, Sept. 24

Mountain Valley Brewing and the Blue Ridge Regional Library will host a virtual “Friends” trivia night from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. To register, email events@brrl.lib.va.us and you will receive an email with a link to join the Zoom meeting the day of the event.

 

Saturday, Sept. 26

The Patrick County Demolition Derby will be held at the Rotary Field Amphitheater starting at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10 in cash at the gate. Children 12 and under get in for free.

 

The New Hope Church of the Brethren will hold a fundraiser from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for Ann Easter, whose home suffered major damage from an underground mudslide in May. The meal is drive-thru only and costs $8 per plate for BBQ pork, green beans, corn, slaw, roll, desert, and drink.

 

Saturday, Oct. 3

The Ararat Ruritan Club is selling 8-feet table “spots” for $10 for a “Vendor Blender” event to be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 12 tables will be reserved on a first come-first serve basis. One table per product. Email AraratRuritanClub@gmail.com for an application. Include the product to be sold.

Mountain Home Masonic Lodge is selling whole cooked Boston butts for $30 per butt. The pick-up location is at the Mountain Home Masonic Lodge #263, 111 Buena Vista Ave, Stuart, VA, 24171. You can place your order by contacting Benny Baliles at 229-6517, Jack Williams at 692-5679, or Jim Litten at 694-2449. Proceeds will help benefit the group’s Christmas and community projects.

The Mountain Valley Hospice Alzheimer’s Support Group meets on the first Tuesday of each month from 6-7 p.m. Meetings are held virtually. Mountain Valley Hospice hosts a virtual caregiver support group the first Thursday of each month, 1 and 6 p.m., for families dealing with serious illness, such as cancer, Alzheimers, congestive heart failure or COPD. The Jeb Stuart Rescue Squad is auctioning off a 2001 Ford F450 4×4 unit via silent auction. The 2001 unit has 142,336 miles. Maintenance logs are available upon request. Bids can be mailed to P.O. Box 340, Patrick Springs, Va., 24133 by Friday, Oct. 16 by 5 p.m.
