WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22

DMV 2 GO: apply for or renew ID card, apply or renew driver’s license, reinstate driving privileges, get a copy of your driving record, obtain vehicle titles, and more. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Patrick Henry Community College Site in Stuart. (Will be set up inside, mobile unit not available)

FARMERS MARKET: Tuesday market, locally grown items, 3 to 6 p.m., Stuart Farmers Market.

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 23-SATURDAY, AUGUST 25

REVIVAL/HOMECOMING: Pastor Harold Fitzgerald, Thursday and Friday 7 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. with Rev. Gary Stoots, special singing each night; Life Tabernacle, 711 Iron Belt Lane, Stuart.

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 24

FARMERS MARKET: Master Gardeners with information, fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, eggs, cheese, and baked items, 8 a.m. to noon, Stuart Farmers’ Market.

MUSIC: provided by the Kitchen Pickers, 10 a.m. to noon, breakfast available, HJDB event center, Bassett.

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 25

GOSPEL MUSIC: food will be served, 2 to 3 p.m., front porch bluegrass stage at Poor Farmer’s Farm, Vesta.

FAMILY FUN DAY: activities include inflatable’s, emergency vehicles, balloon fun from 10 a.m. to noon, guessing jars, make your own slime, bubble station, arts and crafts, free lunch at noon, Concord United Methodist Church ice cream at 12:30. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nettle Ridge United Methodist Church, Nettle Ridge Loop, Stuart.

PARK APPRECIATION DAY: water slide from 4 to 6 p.m.; food, silent auction, vendors from 4 to 7 p.m., Mountain Top Park, Meadows of Dan.

LCC CRUISE-IN: music provided by Steve Marshall and High Road, concession will be available, 50/50 tickets, vendor, vintage cars, trucks, muscle cars, bikes, 5 p.m. to dark; Lambsburg Community Center, Lambsburg, Va.

 

SUNDAY, AUGUST 26

HOMECOMING: special singing by Chords of Faith, message by Pastor Teddy Hiatt, Sunday school at 10 a.m., worship service at 11 a.m., lunch following service, Wayside Community Church, 3520 Wayside Rd., Stuart.

HARBOUR FAMILY REUNION: bring a covered dish, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Reynolds Homestead, 463 Homestead Ln., Critz. For more information, call George Harbour, Jr. at (276) 930-2344.

GOSPEL MUSIC CONCERT: performance by Port City Quartet based out of Wilmington, N.C. featuring southern gospel music with a live band, free to the public, 6 p.m., Fairway Baptist Church, 9427 Fairystone Park Highway, Bassett.

4TH ANNUAL VESTA PENTECOSTAL HOLINESS CHURCH BIKER SUNDAY: dedicated to the memory of bikers that were part of the church; music, cookout after the service, 11 a.m., 32 Vesta Church Rd., Vesta. For more information, call David Hylton at (276) 692-5878.

ROOK/BIBLE STUDY: rook games 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Bible Study 11 a.m., room 6; breakfast available for $5, HJDB Event Center, Bassett.

 

TUESDAY, AUGUST 28

FARMERS MARKET: great selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, 3 to 6 p.m., Stuart Farmers’ Market.

GET VERSED: free Bible memorization course taught by Kelly McCarthy. Course runs six consecutive Tuesday nights, 6 to 7 p.m., Stuart Library meeting room. Call (276) 694-4184 to pre-register. Light refreshments will be served.

TOWN HALL MEETING: Guest: Anthony Flaccavento, candidate for Congress in the 9th district. Farm fresh community meal provided by volunteers at 5:30 p.m.; program with questions begins at 6:15 p.m., All welcome, Meadows of Dan Community Building, 2858 JEB Stuart Hwy, Meadows of Dan.

FIRST SATURDAY OUTING: 3.5 mile paddle on Banister River from Terry’s Bridge Access (US 360 Bridge) to Wolf Trap Access (Rt 716 Bridge), free, Dan River Basin Association. For more information, call Carl Espy at (434) 470-1424.

GREENTEAM CLEAN UP: volunteer to help clean up local roadways, Woolwine Highway towards Wood’s Cold Storage will be the selected area to clean up. Neon vests, bags, trash grabbers will be provided. Meet at 5:15 p.m. at Howell’s Grocery, 230 Woolwine Hwy, Stuart.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7

FARMERS MARKET: Tool sharpening *fee involved, locally grown produce, fruit, meats, eggs, baked items and more, 8 a.m. to noon, Stuart Farmers Market.

 

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8

11TH ANNUAL CAR, BIKE & TRACTOR SHOW: check in at 8 a.m., judging at 11 a.m., classes include car/truck, bike, and tractor. $15 entry fee, call for multi-car discount. Fireman’s awards for top 15 cars and trucks, top 3 bikes, top 3 tractors and people’s choice. Door prizes for entries, DJ Music Mix, lunch and snacks available for purchase.
