WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21

FREE MEAL/FOOD DISTRIBUTION: church van available to pick up people on Wednesday and on Sunday mornings, to ride call the church at 694-6357; doors open at 5:30 p.m., meal at 6 p.m., food bank ministry open Mon., Wed. and Fri. from 3 to 5 p.m.; Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church.

 

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23

SHARP LOGGER CLASS: on sustainable forestry; first class of three required by loggers to be certified in sustainable forestry, logging safety, Best Management Practices (BMPs) and water quality; for new loggers or those whose certification has expired; to sign up for the program, call Andrew Vinson at Virginia Tech at (540) 231-6494; the other two classes will be held March 2 and 9; snacks provided by Griffith Lumber, noon to 6 p.m., Patrick Henry Community College community room, Stuart.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24

POOR MAN’S SUPPER: menu: pinto beans, mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, slaw, cornbread, dessert and drink; $6 per plate; hot dogs available for children at $1 each; 5 to 8 p.m., CCDF Fire and Rescue Department, 2086 Dry Pond Hwy.

BEGINNING CROCHET CLASS: instructor: Amy Register; students will make a scarf, all supplies included, $10 for members and $15 for non-members, must pre-register, call (276) 957-5757; 9 a.m. to noon, Spencer-Penn Centre.

SUNDAY MATINEE: Reminiscing with Robbie and Betty, who sing music to help seniors reminisce about their past; includes Big Band era, ’50s sock hop, ’60s ballads, country classics, timeless standards and gospel; free admission, donations for the band appreciated, 3 p.m., Spencer-Penn Centre.
