The Patrick County High School golf team traveled to Martinsville and Forest Park Country Club last Tuesday and came home victorious in a district match hosted by the Bulldogs.
Evan Hopkins was medallist for the Cougars with a 79. Jarrod Burnette shot an 81 while Thatcher Blankenship carded an 83. Jake Martin shot an 88.
The Cougar team score was 331 while Magna Vista scored a 343 and Tunstall scored 346. The Bulldogs did not play a complete team.
“This was a big win for us as a team,” Coach Philip Steagall said. “Evan played one of his best rounds of the season to lead all scorers.”
Last Monday, the Cougars played a Conference 32 match at Hunting Hills Country Club. The Cougars finished fourth out of five teams.
Jake Martin led Cougar golfers with an 83; Daniel Smith shot an 85 with Wesley Diggs one stroke back at 86. Thatcher Blankenship and Jarrod Burnette each shot an 89.
Blacksburg won the match with a score of 301, followed by Hidden Valley-303, Abingdon-304, Cave Spring-321, Patrick County-343 and Christiansburg-371.
The Cougars played another conference match Tuesday at Blacksburg and will play Halifax and Franklin County Thursday at West Lake Golf Course.
