Patrick County hosted the Halifax County Comets Monday night for the first round of the Piedmont District Tournament. The Cougars came out aggressively, maintained possession and pressure for much of the first 20 minutes of the game, however the Comets capitalized on some Patrick County errors in the 17th minute, leading to a goal by Armiche Crawley off of a Jamar Walker throw-in.

The two teams went back and forth for the remainder of the first half, neither of them able to find the back of the net. After halftime, the Cougars came out much like they did in the first half, only Luis Ramirez found the net after getting a pass from Krishal Soma.

Patrick County kept the Comets off the board until the 75th minute, when a controversial call led to a Halifax penalty kick. Maynor Acosta converted the PK.

Ky’Juan Walker had five saves for the Comets and Martin Morse had nine saves for the Cougars, leaving the first round of the Piedmont District Tournament as Patrick County 1 and Halifax 2.
