The Patrick County High School Football team lost 25-42, Friday night, to the Martinsville Bulldogs.
Despite two first half turnovers, the Cougars held a 19-14 lead at the half. The Bulldogs received the 2nd half kickoff, scoring a few plays later on a long run, giving them a 21-19 lead. The Bulldogs scored two more times, bringing the score to 35-19. The Cougars fought back with another touchdown of their own to make the score 35-25 with 5 minutes left in the game The Bulldogs tacked on another score with a short time left in the game to seal it at 42-25.
The game was hard fought, and despite the loss, the Cougars showed great effort and toughness throughout the contest.
Leading the way for the Cougars offensively was Aden Penn with 124 yards on 21 carries and 3 touchdowns. Demontez Hill added 102 yards on 11 carries and 1 touchdown. Peyton Cambron had 7 carries for 28 yards.
Leading receivers for the Cougars were Jai Penn with 2 receptions for 62 yards, Ty Stowe-Holt with 1 reception for 22 yards, and Peyton Cambron with 1 reception for 7 yards. Triston Underwood went 4 for 10 passing with 91 yards and added a 1-yard rushing touchdown as well. Reyli Martinez added 1 extra point.
The Cougar defense was led by Matt Allen with 11 tackles. Cambron had 8 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 sack. Will Black and Aden Penn added 7 tackles each with Sam Hubbard recording 5 tackles and 1 tackle for loss, Carlos Beccerril and Demontez Hill added 3 tackles each with Hill recording an interception. Jai Penn, Jermaine Penn, Jerry Howard, and Payton Stovall all also added tackles for the Cougars.
The Cougars will be back in action Thursday night at Magna Vista High School at 7 pm.
