Patrick County’s new Emergency Management Service (EMS) Director, Scott Cooper, resigned from his position last month after about 60 days in the position.

County Administrator Geri Hazelwood said Cooper was hired Nov. 8, and tenured his resignation effective Jan. 24.

“Patrick County of course thanks Mr. Cooper for his service over the past two months he was with us,” she said.

Hazelwood said she does not know why Cooper resigned from his position, but noted that the county “wishes him the best in his future endeavors.”

Scottie Cassell, a member of Station 8, will serve as the interim EMS Director, Hazelwood said, and added that “the search for a new director has begun and we are taking applications at this time.”

Interested parties can apply for the position on the Patrick County website at www.co.patrick.va.us.
