“Local governments can succeed only when citizens are active participants.”
That’s the guiding principle of civics expert Diane Kalen-Sukra, who will lead a Citizen Committee Information Workshop hosted by the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Patrick County Administration.
Patrick County operates through a variety of advisory boards and committees that rely on volunteer citizen members. The session will provide an overview of available committees and help attendees identify where their interests, skills and experience can make the greatest impact.
Committees include, but are not limited to, the Tourism Advisory Council, Economic Development Authority, Public Service Authority, Parks and Recreation Committee, Department of Social Services, Southern Area Agency on Aging and the Planning Commission.
Residents who have ever wondered how to serve their community or influence local decision-making are encouraged to attend.
The workshop will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the community room at the Patrick & Henry Community College site in Stuart.
The event is free and open to the public. Civic-minded residents of all backgrounds are welcome to attend and learn how to play an active role in shaping the county’s future.
