The Covered Bridge 5K attracted participants from 6 to 74 years old, according to Stephanie Vipperman, organizer of the event and host of the race since it’s inauguration in 2011.

“We normally always host it in conjunction with the Covered Bridge Festival the third Saturday in June, but it got postponed this year due to COVID,” she explained.

This year’s event drew participants from Patrick, Henry, Franklin, Floyd, Carroll and Montgomery counties in Virginia and Surry County, N.C., Vipperman said, and added 38 people finished the race.

Three nonprofit agencies have benefited from race proceeds in the past 10 years, Vipperman said of Women Caring for the Community, Stuart Elementary Athletic Boosters, and now Southern VA Child Advocacy Center (CAC). “Our Patrick County Satellite CAC is located below the Adult Education/Workforce Center, beside the Virginian Motel,” she added.
