The Reynolds Homestead Creative Arts Center, located at 334 Patrick Avenue in Stuart, will be hosting several art classes in the coming weeks.

Charles Hill, award-winning artist working out of Studio 107 in Martinsville, is teaching two acrylic painting classes. The first, held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday March 31, will focus on Painting Landscapes. Hill will discuss the basics of painting composition and design, brush types and techniques, mixing paint, color theory, and using one’s own innate creativity to complete a painting.

The second class, Painting Seascapes, will be held on Sunday, April 28, and will emphasize the same principles of good painting design. It also is from 2 to 5 p.m. Participants will need acrylic paints and brushes for the classes, all other materials will be provided.  If anyone does not have the paints and brushes, kits will be available for purchase for $20.  The cost of each class is $35, and anyone who registers for both may take them for $60, a savings of $10.

For those who love creating and designing jewelry, Pat Coleman, another Studio 107 artist, will be teaching Bottle Cut Jewelry on Sunday, April 7 from 2 to 5 p.m. Students will learn the techniques to cut and shape bottles into designs, then foil and wire wrap the cuts to make necklaces, bracelets and earrings. All supplies are provided for the class, but if anyone has a beautifully colored bottle they would like to bring, they are welcome to do so. The cost of the class is $30 per person.

Spring is the time to think about new wreaths for the front door, and Bonnie Turner from Stuart is offering a  Corn Shuck Wreath Class on Sunday, May 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. These wreaths are beautiful and would be excellent Mother’s Day gifts as well. Students will work with a 14-in wreath form, and natural or dyed corn shucks to create the wreaths. The cost of the class is $40 per person and includes all of the materials needed to complete a wreath.

To register for any of these classes, call the Reynolds Homestead at 276-694-7181, or visit the website www.reynoldshomestead.vt.edu to download registration forms.

Acrylic Landscape Painting and Corn Shuck Wreath classes are two of the offerings on tap at the Creative Arts Center.
