The Enterprise invites Patrick County students to celebrate the holidays by entering our annual Christmas Creative Writing Contest. The contest is a way for students to express themselves and be recognized for exceptional writing.
Students in grades K-12 are invited to submit Christmas-themed short stories, essays, and poems. Homeschooled students are welcome and encouraged to participate. The deadline is Friday, December 2.
Some students find they enjoy interviewing parents, grandparents and great-grandparents about their own childhood memories of Christmas. Letters to Santa won’t be accepted as contest entries.
Teachers are encouraged to assign students contest entries and to submit them on behalf of students. Only one submission per student will be accepted.
Please include the student’s name, school and grade level; and please monitor entries for plagiarism. Please also encourage students to type their entries whenever possible.
Applicants will be divided into three groups: kindergarten through third grade, fourth through seventh grade, and eighth through 12th grade.
In each category, first place receives $50, second place receives $25, and third place receives $15. Winning entries will be published in our Christmas edition on December 21.
Noteworthy entries receive an honorable mention and will also be published, but those students won’t receive cash awards. Entries will be judged according to writing skill, originality, and content.
Please email entries to angela@theenterprise.net; mail them to The Enterprise, P.O. Box 348, Stuart, Va. 24171; or deliver them to 129 North Main Street in uptown Stuart.
