The Patrick County High School cross country teams competed at the Metropolitan Championships last Wednesday at Blacksburg High School.
“We came into the meet ranked ninth on the boys’ side, and 12th on the girls’ side in the 27-team meet,” said Coach Danel Slaydon.
Juan Cisneros led the boys’ team to a ninth a place finish, and Macie Rogers led the girls team to “claw up” three spots to finish ninth.
“Overall, it was a good day for both teams,” Slaydon said. “On the boys’ side, Zach Montgomery and Monroe Morse had very strong races, and on the girls’ side, Arielle Taylor, Hannah Roberson and Lindsey Marshall really stepped up and pushed their limits,” he said.
“Blacksburg’s challenging course is great at exposing weaknesses, and we discovered a few of ours today,” he added. “Although we did not execute perfectly, everyone knows what they need to do to take their racing to the next level. We left the meet feeling positive and excited about the coming weeks.”
Finishes of racers: girls: Macie Rogers-26 (21:49.20), Armonte Carter-44, Arielle Taylor-62, Montana Moorefield-87 and Hannah Roberson-91; boys: Juan Cisneros-17 (17:39.90), Zach Montgomery-32 Monroe Mores-39, Jared Biedrycki-67 & Gonzalo Vargas-110.
