The first ever Cross Walk event, held by Patrick County Ministerial Association on Good Friday, April 3, was a huge success, with an estimated 200 to 225 in attendance.

“We had over 100 people who walked with those carrying the cross from Truist Bank Parking lot to the picnic shelter below the ball field at DeHart Park in Stuart,” said the Rev. Thomas Shepherd, pastor of Stuart Church of Living Water, which spearheaded the event.

“Members of the Patrick County High School Praise and Worship Team led the Cross Walk Worship, singing various songs and reading scripture texts pointing to the coming Messiah,” he added.

The Patrick County Ministerial Association expressed its deep gratitude to everyone who participated by their attendance, by walking, or by carrying the cross.

“It was a success because we all worked together,” Shepherd said.

“We would like to thank the members of Stuart Baptist Church for playing the Tolls of the Bells on the Chimes while participants carried the cross. The effect was deeply emotional. We also thank the PCHS Praise Team for leading worship, which made this event truly a community event,” he said, and added, “thank you community.”

Plans are underway for next year’s Cross Walk, with plans to make it an annual event.

For information, contact Shepherd at 276-694-3322.

The event ended at DeHart Park in Stuart. Organizers estimate up to 225 people attended.
The cross was placed between two others once it reached the park.
