The Patrick County Chamber of Commerce and Stagecoach Coffee are partnering on a community fundraiser to benefit the Patrick County Imagination Library.
Cup of Ambition Day will be held in conjunction with Dolly Day, a celebration of Dolly Parton’s legacy and her commitment to childhood literacy. Customers at Stagecoach Coffee will be able to make an additional donation to the Imagination Library, and a portion of the day’s proceeds will benefit the program.
The Patrick County Imagination Library has seen increased interest and registrations following the recent passing of Dolly Parton, whose vision for early childhood literacy inspired the program. With more local children participating, the need for community support has also grown.
The state helps cover approximately half of the program’s cost, but the county still needs to raise approximately $6,000 each year to ensure every registered child can continue receiving a free, age-appropriate book each month.
“Dolly created the Imagination Library because she believed every child deserves the opportunity to grow up surrounded by books,” said Rebecca Adcock, executive director of the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce. “Dolly Day gives us an opportunity to celebrate that legacy in a meaningful way — by making sure children right here in Patrick County continue to receive the gift of a book every month. We are excited to partner with Stagecoach Coffee, a Chamber Member, to turn something as simple as enjoying a cup of coffee into an opportunity to invest in our children and their future.”
The effort will support approximately 400 Patrick County children who receive a new, age-appropriate book each month through the Imagination Library.
Local businesses also can participate through the Corporate Cup of Ambition Challenge. The Chamber is asking businesses, including those that are not coffee shops, to consider making a donation to the Patrick County Imagination Library.
“Cup of Ambition is about more than coffee,” Adcock said. “It’s about ambition — the ambition we have for our children and for the future of Patrick County. Dolly’s legacy reminds us that something as simple as putting a book in a child’s hands can have a lasting impact. A corporate gift, a percentage of coffee sales, or even an individual donation can all add up to something significant when our community works together.”
The community is invited to visit Stagecoach Coffee, make a donation and support early childhood literacy in Patrick County. Businesses interested in participating can contact the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce.
