Dr. David William Roycroft passed away on May 22, 2023, at his home in Charity, Virginia.

David was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 10, 1937, to the late Walter Richard Roycroft, Sr. and Elizabeth Skelton Roycroft. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Richard Roycroft, Jr.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Hofstra University and a Medical Doctorate degree from Albany Medical College, he served his residency in pathology at both Albany Medical College and Walter Reed Army General Hospital. He was Board Certified by the American Board of Anatomical and Clinical Pathology and served as Chief of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He served in the United States Army Medical Corps, attaining the rank of Major.

David worked at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County for forty years. He was also passionate about agriculture, restoring old cars, and operating the business he founded in 1982, Smith River Biologicals. He was experienced in metal and woodworking.

Dr. Roycroft is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Weick Roycroft, his son, Glenn David Roycroft, and Glenn’s wife, Teri.

Family and friends of Dr. Roycroft are invited to celebrate his life with a visitation on Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Moody Funeral Services in Stuart. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 11:00 am in Woolwine Cemetery with Rev. John Heck officiating. Military rites will be provided by Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders. A memorial service will be held at a later date in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 65 Rock Ridge Rd, Callaway, VA 24067. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
