The 2016 Patrick County Dixie Youth District 3 All-Star Champions will be heading to the 2016 Dixie Youth AAA State Tournament July 22 in Buckingham.
Players, parents, coaches and Dixie Youth fans have been busy raising funds to cover the $2,500-$3,000 that will be necessary to transport, spend up to six nights in hotels and feed the team. Cost of motel rooms is $110 per night with four rooms needed for teammates. The team could possibly be in Buckingham for six nights.
Players and parents have sponsored a Krispy-Kreme doughnut sale that concluded today (Wednesday).
Others have gained sponsorship from Sheets Fuels who gave the team 100 meal coupons as well as 40 drink coupons.
Hopefully, Nelson Automotive Group will be able to furnish two 12-person vans to transport the team to the state tournament.
The team and coaches are still hoping for contributions; they may be dropped off at WHEO Radio, Swails Insurance or mailed to Swails Insurance at P.O. Box 72, Stuart, VA 24171. Make checks payable to PCDYB.
“We don’t want the parents of our team members to have to cover the cost of their sons competing in the tournament—we want them to be able to attend themselves and enjoy the competition,” said Coach Sonny Swails.
The team will leave Stuart Thursday afternoon, July 21, around 5 p.m. Plans are being worked on for a team departure from Rotary Field. More information will be made available next week.
