The Anglers Ridge Trail system offers a variety of woods, meadows and a cascading creek for hikers to enjoy.

The Dan River Basin Association (DRBA) is hosting its monthly, free First Saturday Outing (FSO) on December 4.

The outing is a 3.2-mile hike on the Anglers Ridge Trail system at Anglers Park, in Danville.

Participants are invited to meet by 9 a.m. at the public parking lot at Anglers Park.

Coordinator for the outing is Wayne Kirkpatrick, an avid hiker and DRBA board member. The easy to moderate, out and back, hike is on a natural surface, includes a variety of areas, following along a creek through open woods and across a meadow before emerging into an alternate parking area. This hike will include portions of the Eagle Scout and Riverside Drive Trails, here is a link to the trail system map.

Danville is home to one of the longest single track mountain bike trails in the region. Built through a partnership between Anglers Ridge Trail Association and Danville Parks and Recreation, the system offers a variety of trails for multiple experience levels. Choose your own journey, long or short, by riding a single trail or combination.

Hikers and trail runners are also invited to enjoy the scenic creeks and wooded hillsides. The system can be accessed from Anglers Park or Dan Daniel Memorial Park. The trail system is also home to several annual special events including mountain bike races and trail runs.

Outings and meetings of the Dan River Basin Association are free and open to the public.

Participants in the outing are asked to bring lunch, water, and hiking poles and wear hiking boots or walking shoes. Dress in layers of synthetic fabric or wool and be prepared for wind or rain. All participants will be asked to sign a waiver. For safety and to respect other outing participants, DRBA requests that everyone wears a mask that covers the nose and mouth when gathered as a group.

Due to weather and/or state guidelines, the event may be changed. Visit www.danriver.org on December 3, to determine whether the outing will be held.

For more information about the outing, call Kirkpatrick at (540) 570-3511, or email wynbtyk@embarqmail.com.
