Dwight David Atkins, 59, of Ararat, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born in Surry County, N.C., on November 13, 1956 and was a son of the late Clifton and Mary Ruth Hutson Atkins. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Herbert Stephenson.
He was a retired sewing machine mechanic and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Willard Atkins; sisters, Helen Gwyn, Nancy Stephenson, and Audrey Freeman; brothers, Johnny Atkins, Twain Atkins and Joe Atkins; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chad Harrison and Joe Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in Doe Run Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, N.C.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Christian School, 6201 Claudville Hwy., Claudville, VA 24076.
