Ellis E. Ayers, age 76, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016, at the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart.
He was born in Patrick County on June 4, 1940 and was a son of the late Thomas P. “Cap” Ayers and Eva West Ayers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Hancock Ayers and an infant brother, Thomas Lee Ayers.
He served in the United States Air Force and retired as an insurance agent with over 35 years of service. He had been a member of Vesta Rescue Squad for 20 years and the Ruritan Club, serving as president for three terms. He had served as a Boy Scout Master for 10 years, American Legion Commander for three years and served on the Patrick County Electoral Board for three years. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Belinda A. and John Adams of Salem; one son, Steven E. Ayers of Salem; four grandchildren, Maegan Doyle, Kayla Ayers, Jordan Doyle and wife Rachel, Ellisa Ayers; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald W. and Ruby Ayers of Abingdon; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sharon A. Parker, Ann A. and Richard Conner, a brother-in-law, George Parker, all of Meadows of Dan. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Jeff Dalton and John Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in Meadows of Dan Baptist Church cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 911, Meadows of Dan, Virginia 24120.
