Elva Shockley Gilbert, 87, of Martinsville, died on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
She was born on March 6, 1928, in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Robert F. Shockley and Lois Shockley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Gilbert; a brother, James Shockley; and sisters, Marie Robbins and Ruth Collins.
She was a member of Chatham Heights United Methodist Church. She graduated from Stuart High School and had worked at Lacy’s Manufacturing.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Gilbert; and sisters, Dorothy Overby, JoAnn Shockley Corns, Sharlene Quesinberry; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Saturday at Minnie’s Chapel Wesleyan Church cemetery in Patrick County. The Reverend Marshall Banks officiated.
