Mrs. Emily Ryburn Reed, age 95, of Stuart, VA, passed away on August 29, 2022. She was born in Meadowview, VA to the late William Thomas Ryburn and Margaret Katherine Preston Ryburn. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Ramsey Reed; twin sister, Bess Hope Ryburn; brother, William Samuel Ryburn, Sr.; and her brother-in-law Jack R. Minton.  

Emily is survived by her three sons: James William Reed of Stuart, VA; Thomas David Reed (Martha) of Blackstone, VA; and Robert Lee Reed (Catharine) of Clovis, CA.  She is also survived by two granddaughters:  Margaret Blackwell Reed of Midlothian, VA and Mary Preston Reed of Richmond, VA; sister, Katherine Ryburn Minton of Wytheville, VA; brother, Thomas Preston Ryburn (Dorothy); brother-in-law, Kyle Reed; sister-in-law, Laura D. Ryburn and nephew, William Samuel Ryburn, Jr. all of Abingdon, VA.  

Emily was a graduate of Radford University and taught in the Patrick County School System for more than four decades following a brief teaching assignment in Hot Springs, VA. Emily was a member of Stuart Presbyterian Church for 70 years where she was a deacon and member of the Presbyterian Women’s Circle.  

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the original sanctuary at Stuart Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Danny Redman officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service in the vestibule of Stuart Presbyterian Church. The Interment will be private at the Patrick Memorial Gardens.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stuart Presbyterian Church, 309 Staples Ave, Stuart, VA 24171; Patrick County Food Bank, 108 Commerce Street, Stuart, VA 24171; or Caring Hearts Free Clinic of Patrick County, 835 Woodland Drive, Stuart, VA 24171.
