A historical concert, “Family Music Traditions,” will be held at The Reynolds Homestead on Sunday, April 8.
Presented by the American Music Series, an old-time music concert starts at 2:30 p.m. It features the talents and history of 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation musicians from the Blackard, Shelor, and Pendleton families of Patrick County.
The Shelor and Blackard families are known for their musical contributions to the 1927 Original Bristol Sessions, which are considered “The Big Bang” of American Country music. The influential recordings were instrumental in shaping the sounds and practices of early commercial country music, and still reverberate through the roots of contemporary American music.
Clay Shelor, his son, Dayne, and daughters Charis and Jamie, will represent the Shelor/Blackard families in the concert.
Ron Pendleton, well known for his musicianship in the local and regional areas, will represent the Pendleton family.
Victor Furtado, an accomplished regional clawhammer banjoist, will share insights from his strong family music tradition, and Robin Pendleton will share a family history.
Tickets for the concert are $8 for ages 16 and older and may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling the Reynolds Homestead (276) 694-7181. Ages 15 and under are admitted free.
