Virginia will receive more than $5.28 million in federal funding to strengthen services for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced.
The funding, awarded to the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, includes nearly $4.27 million through the STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program to support law enforcement, prosecutors, courts and victim services, and more than $1.01 million through the Sexual Assault Services Formula Program to assist rape crisis centers and other nonprofit organizations serving survivors.
The grants are intended to improve victim protection, strengthen prosecution efforts and expand services for victims and their families.
