Surry Community College is excited to celebrate the first graduating class of the Esthetics program within the Cosmetic Arts Division.
The seventeen graduates include Vereniz Lachino and Kayla Collins of Dobson; Vanessa Hernandez, Diana Chilton, and Malaya Johnson of Mount Airy; Stephanie Ramirez Perez and Gisela Garcia of Galax, Va.; Kaylee Dean of Glade Valley; Iraida Torres of Hamptonville; Gracie Crowell of Stuart, Va.; Harleigh Davis of Hillsville, Va.; Kayli Grizzell of Siloam; Lakin Holbrook of Elkin; Ana Reyes Cano of Cana, Va.; Kenna Wood of Pinnacle; Heather Jones of Pilot Mountain; and Savanna Miller of Ararat, Va.
The Esthetician curriculum is designed to prepare students for licensure as an Esthetician in North Carolina. The program requires at least 600 hours of coursework, typically completed over two semesters. Students gain a strong foundation in both the science and art of skincare. Scientific topics include anatomy, physiology, and infection control, while artistic skills cover areas such as facial massage, makeup application, and brow lamination.
Training takes place in a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop and refine their practical skills. Under professional supervision, they receive hands-on experience with a variety of treatments from basic facials and body waxing to more advanced procedures like dermaplaning, micro needling, and lash lifting.
Upon completion of the program, graduates become eligible to take the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts Licensing Exam. Upon passing, licensed professionals will qualify for employment in salons, spas, wellness clinics, or private practices.
Fall registration is currently underway. Due to high demand, the program is at full capacity and prospective students have been placed on a waitlist. For more information about the Esthetician program, contact Robin Minton, Director of Cosmetic Arts, at (336) 386-3570 or mintonr@surry.edu
