Anthony Flaccavento, a commercial organic farmer, author and rural development expert, will speak at a meeting of the Patrick County Democrats on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2:30 pm at the Vesta Community Center.

Flaccavento will speak on “Bread and Butter Progressivism:  Connecting and Communicating to Broaden the Rural Democratic Base,“ with attention to the connections between government policies and the health of rural communities.

His talk will be followed by Q and A and discussion.  The meeting is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served.

Flaccavento is the founder of SCALE, Inc.  a private consulting business that works to support sustainable rural development; he has worked with communities in Southwest Virginia and beyond for more than 20 years on developing strategies to improve the economic and social well-being of rural communities and small towns.  He is a frequent speaker and panelist at environmental and progressive conferences and seminars and was the Democratic nominee for the House of Representatives in the 9th District in 2018.

The Vesta Community Center is located at 149 Community Lane, near the Vesta Post Office.
