Shaw Floors (Shaw Industries Group Inc.) in Stuart will cease operations at the end of the year, according to an official with the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC).
The company currently employs 160 people on two shifts, Sharon Barksdale, VEC supervisor, said.
She did not know what prompted the closing, but Barksdale said her office will work to help employees.
In 2010, the company acquired nearly all of Stuart Flooring’s assets, including production and other facilities that totaled nearly 200,000 square feet, and about 140 employees, according to online reports.
Earlier this year, the company opened an $85 million carpet tile facility in Georgia, according to online reports.
