The Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Patrick County man.

Austin Lawrence Fain, 18, of Stuart, died at the scene of the single vehicle crash that occurred on October 27, 2017 at 7:46 a.m., according to a release from the Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred on U.S. 58, two tenths of a mile west of Virginia 692 in Henry County, the release stated.

Then, a 2001 Mazda Protégé was traveling east on U.S. 58 at a high rate of speed, the release stated. The vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, according to the release.

Fain was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene, according to the release.

The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police Senior Trooper J. L. Lovell.
