The Patrick County Lady Cougars hosted the Lady Buffaloes of Floyd County on December 22.

At the end of the 1st quarter, Floyd had a 1-point advantage over the Cougars, but the home team outscored the Buffaloes by 4 in the second quarter, holding on to a 32-29 lead at halftime.

The Floyd team had 22 points to the Cougar’s 15 in the second half.

The Cougars fought hard to come back with a few minutes remaining in the 4th, but came up short, giving the Lady Buffaloes a 51-47 win.

Abigail Epperson had a big night, scoring 16 points with six rebounds, one steal, and one assist.

Missy Hazard scored 12 with five rebounds, four steals, and seven assists.

“It was a really good high school basketball game. I was really proud of my kids tonight,” Coach Donny Rakes said. “They weren’t intimidated against a real good Floyd County team. That’s a big step for a very inexperienced team.

“They press you and come at you all night. I thought we handled that fairly well. It was really a game of two halves. As well as we played in the first half, we just could make the big shots in second. We put ourselves in position to win a basketball game, and I’ll take that. We played hard, just came up a little short,” Rakes said.

The Lady Cougars are 5-2 on the season.
